How It Works
1. File Is locally Cryptologically Fingerprinted
2. File’s hash fingerprint sent to our servers
3. uploadED and permanently storeD on multiple blockchains
4. You GET permanent lookup ids for each blockCHAIN to prove existence with timestamp
What FileQED Does
FileQED lets you prove that a specific file existed at a certain point in time – without ever uploading or sharing that file. Our system uses advanced cryptographic techniques to generate a unique fingerprint (hash) of your file directly on your device. This ensures your data stays private; the actual file never leaves your computer. Instead of transmitting the file, we send only the fingerprint—a string of letters and numbers that uniquely represents your file—to our server.
Once we have the cryptographic hash of your file, we permanently record that fingerprint on multiple blockchains and decentralized storage networks. This creates an unchangeable (immutable), time-stamped proof that your file existed, which you can verify independently at any time. Even if FileQED were to go offline, your blockchain proof remains live and accessible. All you need to do is save and never edit that file so it will always match the recorded information.
Why It Works
At the core of FileQED is a simple but powerful idea: A cryptographic fingerprint (called a hash) uniquely represents your file. Even the smallest change in the file will produce a completely different hash. This means that if the hash stays the same, the file is exactly the same—no guesswork, no approximations.
When you timestamp a file with FileQED, that hash is recorded on one or more public blockchains – decentralized systems that no single person or organization can alter. Once a hash is stored there, it becomes part of a permanent, time-stamped public ledger. Anyone in the world can look it up and verify that the exact same file existed at that moment in time. We optionally back this data up to permanent storage networks like Arweave or IPFS for extra resilience and redundancy.
This creates an immutable proof of existence that doesn’t rely on FileQED to function long-term. As long as the blockchain or permanent network exists (which is the entire point of them), your timestamp can be verified. You don’t need to trust us—you can always prove it independently.
Uploader Proof
To strengthen the proof even further, FileQED offers an optional identity layer. If you choose either the double or ultimate proof service, we generate a second cryptographic hash that combines your file’s fingerprint with your email address. This second hash is stored alongside the original on the blockchain. This allows you to later prove who submitted the file for timestamping bu verifying ownership of the email.
It’s a simple, privacy-preserving way to link proof of existence with proof of ownership.
